Bugesera: Students encouraged to make Rwanda proud in the PISA assessment

Students from Maranyundo Girls School in Bugesera District were briefed on the Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA), an international student evaluation in which Rwanda will be participating for the first time. They were urged to prepare diligently and represent Rwanda with pride on the global stage.

On March 19, 2025, Murangwa George, the NESA representative in Bugesera District, explained the details of the PISA assessment to the students, encouraging them to get ready and make Rwanda proud.

He stated: “What is required of you is to prepare well and bring pride to our country on the international stage. This assessment does not require you to memorize large amounts of information from books and notebooks; instead, you will apply the knowledge you already have to answer the questions.”

Gashumba Jacques, the Head of Education in Bugesera District, emphasized that this assessment is a great opportunity for students to represent Rwanda at an international level.

He said:”There will be a preliminary assessment to evaluate students’ proficiency. Bugesera is among the districts with top-performing schools in the country, and we are confident that this assessment will go well.”

Students confident in their abilities.

Hirwa Teta Kenny Roxanne expressed confidence in her readiness, stating: “I always excel in all subjects, and I am fully prepared to succeed in this assessment as well.”

Similarly, Munezero Parfaite said: “It is my duty to contribute to my country’s progress and make it proud. I am ready, and I will succeed.”

Udahemuka Audace, the Deputy Head of Academics at Maranyundo Girls School, highlighted that being among the selected schools to represent Rwanda is a significant achievement.

He stated:“In collaboration with NESA, we will conduct a preliminary assessment before PISA. Our school has a strong record of participating in international competitions, especially in mathematics, and we are confident in our ability to perform well. Being chosen for this assessment is a major milestone for us.”

The PISA assessment will take place from April 27 to June 7, 2025, with participation from 91 countries, including five African nations: Rwanda, Kenya, Morocco, Egypt, and Zambia. This marks Rwanda’s first participation in PISA, and the assessment will focus on mathematics, English, and science.
