Members of the Democratic Green Party of Rwanda on Friday, December 12, 2025, gathered with a shared sense of purpose as they elected their local representatives in Gasabo and Nyarugenge districts. The exercise was part of a broader nationwide process aimed at strengthening the party’s grassroots leadership.
The elections were officially opened by the party’s Chief Commissioner, Hon. Alexis Mugisha, who reminded members that leadership goes hand in hand with responsibility. Beyond voting, participants also took part in discussions and training sessions on good governance, democratic principles, environmental protection, and ways to improve their social and economic well-being.
For Louise Muhawenimana, who was re-elected to lead the Green Party in Gasabo District, the moment was also a time to reflect on progress made at the community level. She said the party’s development initiatives were already changing lives.
“The opportunities we have been given are making a real difference,” she said. “Our children are staying in school, families that once struggled are slowly improving their living conditions, and even paying for community health insurance is no longer a heavy burden.”
Speaking to members, Juliet Batsinda, Secretary of the Green Party’s Media Commission, encouraged them to use social media wisely and responsibly. She urged them to stay alert to misinformation and to play their part in protecting Rwanda’s image by sharing accurate and positive messages.
The gathering ended on a hopeful note, with members expressing renewed determination to work together for inclusive development, environmental protection, and stronger communities.
She urged members to avoid anything that could drag Rwanda back into the dark chapters of its past, and instead work together to highlight the positive progress the country has made and their own role in building it alongside others.
“There is real hope that we will secure more votes in the upcoming elections,” she said with confidence.
The party’s Chief Commissioner, Hon. Alexis Mugisha, said the combined meetings and training sessions the party has been holding across the country are a strong sign that the Democratic Green Party of Rwanda is on the right path to winning more seats in the 2029 elections.

He explained that this optimism is based on the fact that party members have been thoroughly guided on the Green Party’s principles and ideology, ensuring that everyone is united around a shared vision.
“Our party continues to draw closer to its members, and as they grow more connected to it, their support also grows. This gives us confidence that we will secure enough votes in the next elections,” Hon. Mugisha said.
He added that as more people embrace the party, they naturally share its message with others, leading to a steady increase in membership.
“Clearly, these efforts are starting to deliver the political results we had hoped for,” he noted.
Hon. Mugisha also expressed pride in the party’s achievements since February 2025, saying they have successfully reached members across the country, elected leaders from the sector level upwards, and deepened understanding of the party’s ideology.
Following the meetings, trainings and elections in Gasabo and Nyarugenge districts, the Green Party is set to continue the process in Kicukiro, Huye and Nyamagabe districts, as it moves closer to completing its activities nationwide.
