Kigali to welcome investors, innovators for major renewable energy summit

Rwanda is set to host an international conference focusing on the development of renewable energy in Africa. The event will bring together high-level leaders, researchers, investors, and other stakeholders to discuss the future of renewable energy and seek joint solutions to the challenges that still exist in the sector.

The conference will take place from September 8 to 12, 2025, and will gather top government officials, private sector actors, financiers, innovators, energy project developers, academics, and researchers to exchange ideas on the future of renewable energy in Africa.

It will serve as a platform to discuss policy decisions, connect investors with project developers, showcase new technologies, and share knowledge — all aimed at accelerating the growth of affordable, environmentally friendly renewable energy.

Key topics to be covered include the progress of NST2 ESSP, the Mission 300 initiative, the Energy–Food Nexus platform, and the challenges facing renewable energy in Africa.

Last year, the Minister of Infrastructure, Jimmy Gasore, stated that renewable energy already accounts for 52% of Rwanda’s electricity supply. He emphasized that, under the NST2 program, renewable energy remains a priority in efforts to provide electricity to all Rwandans.

The conference will also feature field visits to major energy projects in Rwanda, including the methane gas extraction project, hydroelectric dams, and solar-powered agricultural projects.

The “Energy Week 2025 Conference” is organized by Energy Private Developers (EPD) in collaboration with the Government of Rwanda through the Ministry of Infrastructure (MININFRA), along with other energy sector partners. The event is part of broader efforts to advance sustainable development, foster innovation in renewable energy, and expand investment opportunities in Rwanda and across Africa.
