PISA 2025 will strengthen Rwanda’s education system-Min Nsengimana

In Rwanda, an international assessment has started to evaluate the knowledge and skills of secondary school students under the age of 15 in reading, mathematics, and science. This assessment is known as PISA (Programme for International Student Assessment).

Rwanda is among the five African countries and 91 countries worldwide participating in this assessment, which will show how the quality of education in each country stands at the international level.

The Minister of Education, Joseph Nsengimana, explained the reason behind Rwanda’s participation in the PISA programme. He said Rwanda’s involvement aims to measure the knowledge and skills of students under 15 years old in reading, mathematics, and science.

At the launch event held on Monday, Minister Joseph Nsengimana stated:
Rwanda’s participation in PISA 2025 reaffirms our commitment to strengthening education quality and benchmarking our students’ performance against 91 countries worldwide,” he said.
“The results will offer valuable insights into our current standing and inform any necessary adjustments to further enhance our education system.”

The head of Camp Kigali School, Jean de Dieu Niyonsenga, thanked the Ministry of Education for selecting their school to host the assessment, stating that the students are well-prepared and, based on their participation in previous assessments, there is no doubt they will perform well.

PISA is an international assessment organized by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD). It targets secondary school students aged 15 and below, focusing on reading, mathematics, and science skills.

This year, the assessment involves 91 countries. In Rwanda, 7,455 students from 213 schools nationwide will participate.
