The National Electoral Commission (NEC) has announced the preliminary results from the vote count for the 53 directly elected Members of Parliament, revealing that the RPF-Inkotanyi and its five allied political parties, namely PDC, PPC, PSR, PSP, and UDPR, garnered 62.67% of the votes from 96.7% of the voters.
This announcement was made on the night of July 17, 2024, following the direct voting process by Rwandans both within the country and abroad. The commission reported that a total of 8,730,059 Rwandans participated in the elections.
The President of the National Electoral Commission, Oda Gasinzigwa, stated that the elections were conducted smoothly and thanked everyone involved, saying, “We take this opportunity to thank Rwandans for their participation in these elections.”
The preliminary vote count results for the 53 directly elected Members of Parliament showed that the RPF-Inkotanyi and its allied political parties received 5,471,104 votes, equating to 62.67%.
The next leading party was the Liberal Party (PL), which secured 10.97% of the votes, equivalent to 957,602 supporters.
The Social Democratic Party (PSD) received 827,182 votes, representing 9.48%, followed by the Ideal Democratic Party (PDI) with 507,474 votes, or 5.81%.
The Democratic Green Party of Rwanda (DGPR) obtained 5.30% of the votes, amounting to 462,290 supporters, while PS Imberakuri had 459,526 votes, or 5.26%.
Independent candidate Nsengiyumva Janvier received 44,881 votes, making up 0.51%.
These results were announced after the Presidential results showed that Paul Kagame won with 99.15%, while his opponents, Dr. Frank Habineza and Philippe Mpayimana, received 0.53% and 0.32%, respectively.
The National Electoral Commission announced that the provisional results for the Presidential and the directly elected Members of Parliament elections will be officially declared by July 20, 2024.
Furthermore, the final results of the Presidential and Parliamentary elections will be announced on July 27, 2024.
